Elder Leavitt Heads to the Philippines...

Wow, no one has put anything on the Haupt blog for awhile, so I thought I would just let everyone know that Cameron (AKA Elder Leavitt) has arrived in the Philippines. He was able to call home on his layovers, and we were all excited to hear from him.
Here is the address to send letters, all letters can not be in an envelope. Just fold the paper and address the outside, make sure to seal the paper, these go in pouch mail. If you ever want to send a package, call us and we can share that address with you.

These are some pictures that a great friend of Kandace's took just 2-days before he left. We went to Gardener Village to take our family pictures and these.
This picture I just jumped in, after she had taken like 50, she told Cam to give me a kiss, this is one of my favorites, cause I have his HUG to comfort me. Hope you are all well. Thanks for the love and support. Karen & Steve & Family

Remember us in your prayers!

We're getting hit by life AGAIN!!

Samual will be having surgery on his shoulder again. He has nerve damage. The doctor will have to make a 4-5 inch cut & move the deltoid muscle to get to the nerve to make repairs. (Yippee! That sounds like fun, huh?) We're just waiting in the "pre-authorization" from insurance. Hopefully, he can have it before I go back to school. The first day of school is August 24th. (I "officially" go back August 17th.) He'll be home-bound for 2-3 weeks in a brace (no movement for the shoulder.) Then another month or so before he can begin to get back into the swing of things. He'll have to have some special arrangements with his school -since he won't be able to go for a few weeks or do a lot of lifting when he gets back.

We're hopeful that all will be well in the end. Just a challenge to deal with it all over again.

So.... keep us at the top of your prayer list that all goes smoothly and has a happy ending.
Thanks!! :) Linda

Memorial Day and other stuff

So on Monday, May 25th I made my yearly track down to Grandpa Noe's grave site at the Springville Cemetery. As I got off the freeway and headed down the road to the cemetery, I found out the road was closed, so I took the detour to get to Springville main street. This little detour took me almost to Spanish Fork. But I made it to the cemetery. When I got to Grandpa's grave, I cleaned it up, and noticed that all his rose bushes had been taken out? Humm, I looked around and noticed all the bushes on all the headstones had been removed. So, I guess no more bushes on the sides of the graves.
Other stuff...Here are some pictures from when Linda came out from Florida to help Vicki. This first picture is all of us at Autumn and Derrick's new house in Ogden. They have a beautiful new home.
This is Linda and Vicki blowing out their Birthday cake candles. Can you figure out what the candles add up to????
Just a fun picture of Linda and Vicki. Sorry this is a few months late, but at least I got these posted!

Nurse Lyndsey

Lyndsey is a Graduate Nurse from University of Central Florida. And they say that UCF means "You Can't Finish." Well, she finally did! We're very proud of her accomplishment and we all know that she is a "SMARTIE!" Congratulations, Lynds!
(She also has her first job as an RN at Lucern Hospital in downtown Orlando. She will be on a surgical floor helping people like me to recover following surgery. Hopefully, now that she's graduated - she'll get on an add a "posting" of her own and tell you all about it herself. I"m just the proud mother sharing my happy news.

Pioneer Trek 2009

Trekking in Florida may be different than trekking in Utah BUT.... it is still challenging. It was always HOT during the daylight hours even with all the beautiful trees because the humidity follows you where ever you go. The sand gets in your shoes and causes blisters. There is no excape to the sweaty-wet feelilng. Then at night it dropped 40 degrees & the wet humidity felt so cold. Yep! It was tough! You have to give us full credit for what we accomplished. (And notice that it was not in an "orchard" but rather on a 400+ acre tree farm. We followed trails around and around - covering 23 + miles in 2 1/2 days- 13 miles on the second day.)

We may not have had hills and rocks but we had SUGAR SAND and plenty of it! Check out the trails we crossed. Yep. That's soft sugar sand at the bottom of the photo. The owner of the tree farm used a back-hoe to create "fire breaks" which became our trekking trails. The surface of the sand was so soft & very uneven. The handcart wheels would sink several inches in the sand as the youth pushed & pulled. (Our stake president asked the adults not to help them do the pushing/pulling unless absolutely necessary. He wanted them to have the "experience" of it all.) Wylee took this picture of my family trekking along from the "woods". He had to hide in the woods so as not to be seen. (the stake had a photography crew that took many pictures and also will make a dvd for us.)
I'm the the person right at the rear end of the handcart -trudging along with my head down watching the path. I had to really watch as I took each step because of the loose sand. It made for difficulty foot-placement as I walked because of my "old lady feet." Westlee presented me with a "walking stick" to take to help me "make it to the end." I was grateful I was inspired to go to my foot doctor and have her wrap my bad ankle/foot in a "soft cast" prior to the trek. I really needed the extra support or surely my tendonitis would have left me "dead" on the side of the trail. One of my "niece's" ended up being carried on top for more than half of the distance. She had blisters on her blisters and just could walk anymore. I was so amazed at the strength of the youth. They never complained.

Here I am at the end.... over joyed to have reached our destination - "Salt Lake Valley". Westlee found me right away and we celebrated with a "victory hug."

I can honestly say that I feel blessed to have shared this experience with Westlee. If I had the chance to do it again... I would in a heart beat.

Need we say more?

Someone who can finally keep Grandpa quiet so they can out talk even him. We love you Grandpa, and you too Emma. It is going to be interesting to have two major talkers in the family.

Thank you Torrie for this classic picture!

Draper Temple Corner Stone Ceremony

Our new Draper Temple

Friday we were able to attend the Draper Temple Cornerstone Ceremony. Cameron was in the youth choir that consisted of 200 youth from all over the valley. We arrived 2-hour before the ceremony started, because Cameron needed to be there early. Courtney and I made friends with other family members that had come early to. Once the sun came over the monutain, it was so beautiful. Look at that blue sky behind angle Moroni.
This is President Henry B. Eyring and his wife entering the temple before the ceremony begins.

Courtney was able to capture a picture of President Monson as he was inviting different people to come up and put mortor in the corner stone. President Monson was soo funny, telling people not to worry about spilling the mortor, that they would have professionals come in and clean this all up and make it look good.

Here is Cameron, the amazing singer, in the choir.

Karen,Cameron and Courtney after the ceremony was over. This was such an amazing experience. We all felt the spirit. We know this was a once in a lifetime opportunity. We are glad we were able to be so involved in the openhouse and dedication. We are looking forward now to doing temple work in our new temple.

Happy St. Patty's Day!

Oh, the childhood memories... (just a quick sidenote, Mom is sitting next to me as I type this and I asked her how I should start this and we both thought the exact same thing at the exact same time! )...When we were growing up I remember that all of us kids always looked forward to St. Patrick's Day because we knew we would always find green milk in the refrigerator when we woke up, a special green treat in our lunches at school, and probably the most memorable part...a COMPLETELY green dinner! I personally remember some pretty funky meals such as green spaghetti, green bread, green salad, green sour cream enchiladas, green pizza with glowing radioactive pineapple chucks...and well the list just goes on and on...
Now that all us kids are grown up, it's finally my turn to carry on this green tradition! Now, this is not the first time I've made a green meal, but it is probably one of the strangest and grossest looking one I've made...Green Fettucini Alfredo with green chicken and shrimp, a green salad, and green dinner rolls. I can not explain how much everyone complained that I actually dyed the shrimp green but we all enjoyed the nostalgia as we reminisced about all the green meals of St. Patty's Day's Past!

Toto - We're not in Utah any more!

Here's some more Daytona (New Year's vacation) pictures I wanted to share so you would understand life here in Florida.

While we were there, we wanted to go to church on Sunday. We wondered where we would find one. Well, we didn't have to look far at all. In fact, there was one right across the street from our resort. Check this out! (Be sure to read the banner across the roof of the building. You might have to enlarge the photo - but it's worth it.) You will notice that it's not a Stake Center or a small chapel. Instead....

Okay... we started wondering how in the world did they do that? So... we took the next picture as we walked by this church the next night. We knew that we just "weren't in Utah any more." Needless to say, when Sunday came around & all the cars were pulled into their little "drive-in slots" we went to the LDS chapel that was 15 miles away instead. It sure gives you something to be thankful for. (Are your thinking about the prophecies in the Book of Mormon about the "last days"?
Be thankful for the things that you have been taught. I know that I am. (Linda)

Snow, Snow and more snow

So I saw the pictures of Aunt Linda's sand castles and I wanted to show her what I can do with the 11 inches of snow we have gotten here in Cedar City Utah so far today (Yep, it's still snowing.)

I made this snow angel in my back yard! I also got really snowy and wet and had to change when I got inside. Well at least I didn't get sand in my pants!!!

Oh, Give Me the BEACH Life...

Okay, all you "Snow Bunnies!"

This is what winter is like here in the sunshine state. YES! This is why we live here. These photos were taking by the kids from our balcony over looking Daytona Beach.
We celebrated the New Year by doing nothing but sitting around, being lazy and occasionally playing at the beach. Are you jealous! No need to be. Just come see us in the winter months and you too can enjoy all this beauty!
(I think Lydnsey has some more photos of our maginificant sand castle that I will save & do for another posting.)

These last photos are for Mom. Do you still love light houses?

Wylee's doing the "Captin Morgan" pose because he discovered that he's related. (He was searching for names to take and do temple work> Yep! This family name has been completed recently.)
